Czech police charge former MP Margita Balaštíková and health officials

Czech police have charged former ANO MP Margita Balaštíková, along with two other individuals, in connection with an investigation into the manipulation of inspections at the Zlín regional hygiene station. The suspects include Vladimír Možíšek, the current director of Prague hygiene, and Eva Sedláčková, the former head of hygiene in Zlín.

Balaštíková is accused of abuse of official power. Investigators allege she sought to use hygiene inspections to target ChemProgres, a company owned by her former husband, following their divorce. The case gained attention after secret recordings made by her ex-husband were released, in which she reportedly discussed ways to undermine the business.

Možíšek also faces charges of abuse of official power, while Sedláčková is accused of favoritism. Možíšek has maintained his innocence and stated his intention to prove it. The Ministry of Health has noted it will respect the presumption of innocence but is prepared to act in accordance with the State Service Act should an indictment be filed.
