Czech police crackdown on underage drinking and drugs at weekend festivals

During weekend cultural events in the towns of Nový Hrozenkov, Hovězí and the city of Plzeň, Czech police carried out large‑scale safety operations. In Nový Hrozenkov and Hovězí officers detected 22 cases of alcohol being supplied to minors, including a girl whose blood alcohol measured three per mille, and seized several grams of a substance identified as methamphetamine from a 22‑year‑old man.

In Plzeň, police monitored the Bolevák Music Festival, Raven Fest and a football match, checking 506 people – 316 of them foreigners – and inspecting 47 vehicles. Thirteen traffic and safety offences, two property offences and one public order breach were recorded, and a stolen bicycle was recovered.

The operations involved dozens of officers from order, traffic, criminal, foreign‑nationality and canine units, as well as customs and health officials, aiming to enforce bans on alcohol for persons under 18, control drug activity and ensure road safety.
