Spate of drownings in Slovakia and traffic violations in Czech Republic

In Slovakia, a rescue operation on 24 June at Nová Štrkáreň near Komjatice ended tragically when rescuers retrieved a man who had been missing for hours beneath the water surface. The following day, authorities reported two separate drownings in the southern Komárno district, and on 25 June an 18‑year‑old student, Dominik, drowned while swimming in Sokolce, also in Komárno district.

In the Czech Republic, an 86‑year‑old driver in Litoměřice struck a parked car, fled the scene and was later found with a breath‑alcohol level exceeding four per mille, facing charges of endangering traffic while intoxicated. A separate case involved a driver with multiple driving bans who, after evading police toward the German border, collided head‑on with a police vehicle in Šluknov, injuring two officers and himself. Near Jelšovce, a 32‑year‑old motorist died after a head‑on collision with a truck. In Prague, a 46‑year‑old motorcyclist who was barred from driving and residing in the city fled police, reached speeds over 140 km/h, ran red lights and was finally stopped after a high‑speed chase.
