Czech Police issue road safety warnings following accidents

The Czech Police have issued warnings regarding road safety, highlighting two distinct types of traffic incidents: collisions with wildlife and accidents involving pedestrians.

Regarding wildlife, police no longer attend most accidents involving animals unless there are injuries, third-party property damage, or traffic obstructions, or if damages exceed 200,000 CZK. Drivers must report these incidents via the 158 emergency line to receive documentation for insurance purposes. Statistics show that collisions with animals are a significant issue, with roe deer accounting for approximately 74% of cases and wild boar for 16%.

In a separate safety campaign, police released video footage from the Zlín region documenting dramatic collisions between vehicles and pedestrians. The footage serves as a warning for the start of the school year when traffic density increases. One recorded incident in Luhačov resulted in the death of a senior citizen after being struck by a car at a pedestrian crossing. Authorities emphasized that driver reaction times and physics play a critical role in preventing such fatalities.
