Czech political parties launch campaigns for Senate and municipal elections
Political parties in the Czech Republic have launched campaigns for the upcoming Senate and municipal elections scheduled for October 9 and 10.
TOP 09 has initiated its campaign, titled ‘Our people will stop it in the Senate,’ aiming to prevent the current government coalition from controlling the upper chamber. Party leader Matěj Ondřej Havel emphasized the Senate's role as a democratic safeguard against potential political shifts. TOP 09 is running candidates in Prague, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, and Znojmo, while also supporting candidates from other opposition groups, including Sen 21, Piráti, and STAN.
In Přerov, the ANO movement has begun campaigning with the slogan ‘Replace senators with those who work hard.’ Other local groups, such as Změna, the Civic Democrats, and the ‘Společně pro Přerov’ coalition, are also deploying various messaging strategies ranging from social media presence to direct contact in residential areas. Newer political entities, such as ‘Motoristé sobě + Svobodní,’ have announced plans to introduce their platforms through billboards and websites.
