Czech politicians clash over Ministry control and budget deficits

Czech political tensions have escalated following comments from Andrej Babiš and Petr Fiala regarding the Motoristé party and the national budget. Babiš reported receiving numerous messages from citizens suggesting he should strip the Motoristé party of the Ministry of the Environment. In response, Petr Macinka, the Motoristé leader and current Foreign Minister, characterized environmental activists and non-profits like Greenpeace as a ‘green mafia’ that relies on taxpayer funding.

Separately, former Prime Minister Petr Fiala criticized Macinka for perceived hypocrisy regarding the state budget. Fiala pointed out that while Macinka previously criticized a 286 billion CZK deficit as incompetent, the current government—which includes the Motoristé—has approved a budget with a deficit of nearly 400 billion CZK. Fiala suggested this shift indicates that the party is being dishonest with the public.
