Czech politicians face criticism over climate change denial

Czech political figures from the Motoristé party, including Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, are facing intense criticism from scientists for their rhetoric regarding climate change. Macinka has previously claimed that the 'climate crisis never existed' and characterized climate action as a 'green religion' or a 'PR construct.'

Scientist and communicator Daniel Kortus has publicly challenged these statements, labeling the politicians as liars rather than skeptics and accusing Macinka of being a 'religious fanatic' who attempts to delegitimize scientific data by framing experts as alarmists.

This political tension coincides with the Andrej Babiš government's recent announcement of a 4-billion-koruna plan to combat drought through the establishment of a National Coalition against Drought. Critics, including sociologist Ivan Gabal, have pointed out the contradiction between the government's current spending on water management and the previous climate-skeptical stances held by members of the Motoristé party, who hold key positions in the Ministry of the Environment.
