Czech politicians propose lowering municipal voting age to 16
Members of the TOP 09 and STAN political parties in the Czech Republic are proposing a legislative change to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to vote in municipal elections. Proponents argue that since these youths can work and pay taxes, they should have a say in local governance.
Estimates suggest that such a change could introduce approximately 180,000 to 200,000 new voters to the electoral process. Supporters dismiss concerns regarding voter manipulation or naivety, noting that younger generations possess high digital literacy and that the demographic shift would not be large enough to outweigh the senior population.
