Czech politics: Babiš faces calls for resignation amid FAU court ruling
Czech political tensions have escalated following a court ruling in the FAU case and ongoing Senate election campaigning. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has entered a sharp dispute with STAN leader Vít Rakušan after Rakušan called for Babiš's resignation. The conflict stems from a decade-old case involving the company FAU, which operated in a facility owned by Babiš's Agrofert holding.
A court recently acquitted the company and its owner, Vojtěch Csabi, of tax evasion charges. The ruling stated that the actions taken by the financial and customs administration against FAU were illegal and were “centrally instigated” under pressure from Prague. This has reignited allegations regarding the misuse of state administration to target competitors.
Simultaneously, Senate candidates are campaigning in the Vyškov region. Candidates including Absolonová, Grolich, and Fládr are focusing on regional priorities such as healthcare, transportation infrastructure, and support for young families. Absolonová, representing ANO, has emphasized the need to support nursing staff, while Grolich and Fládr are addressing regional development and road repairs.
