Czech power and gas suppliers hike prices as market spikes

Energy supplier epet energie announced a rise in electricity and gas tariffs for Czech customers, citing sharply higher wholesale prices on European exchanges. The surge is linked to renewed U.S. strikes on Iran, tighter gas supplies, and a near‑50% jump in Dutch TTF gas prices, while electricity for the Czech market reached €117 per megawatt‑hour – the highest level since the end of 2023. Higher EU ETS permit costs also contributed to the increase.

In Brno’s Slatina district, households are warned of markedly higher energy bills, with heating costs expected to rise about 20% (up to roughly 500 CZK per month). Officials advise affected consumers to seek assistance from the Czech Trade Inspection Authority and the Energy Regulation Office, and to explore financial aid from local employment offices.

The price hikes reflect broader market turbulence and add pressure to Czech households already coping with rising fuel and food costs.
