Czech President appoints Daniel Štech as foreign office director, Zajíček to Portugal
On 3 August 2024 Daniel Štech will assume the post of director of the Foreign Department of the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, succeeding Jaroslav Zajíček. Zajíček will become the Czech Republic’s ambassador to Portugal after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed he has received agrément from the Portuguese government. The appointments were announced by the presidential office’s communications department, with chief Milan Vašina saying Štech’s diplomatic experience will ensure continuity in the president’s foreign‑policy work.
Štech brings more than ten years of diplomatic service, having worked in the foreign department since 2023 and previously serving as secretary to the deputy foreign minister and in the embassy in Vienna. Zajíček has led the department since President Petr Pavel took office in spring 2023.
