Czech President Petr Pavel attacked by MP Filip Turek over foreign trips and NATO summit

MP Filip Turek has repeatedly launched attacks on President Petr Pavel via social media, claiming the president is undermining Czech sovereignty and handing competence to Brussels. Turek alleges Pavel speaks ill of the Czech government abroad and criticises his frequent foreign trips to countries such as Ukraine, Lithuania, the Vatican, Chile, Argentina, Romania and Latvia. He also opposes Pavel’s planned participation in the NATO summit in Ankara, arguing that only the government can decide the composition of the Czech delegation and suggesting the president is creating unnecessary drama. Turek and allies have hinted at filing a competence lawsuit if Pavel is not excluded from the summit delegation.
