President Petr Pavel greets Wimbledon champion Linda Nosková and runner‑up Karolína Muchová at Prague Castle
On 24 July 2026 President Petr Pavel received Czech Wimbledon champion Linda Nosková and finalist Karolína Muchová at the Prague Castle. The president arrived wearing a green Wimbledon‑style cap, a surprise gift arranged by Nosková’s coach Lukáš Dlouhý, which he said fulfilled a promise he had made.
Pavel thanked the athletes for their outstanding representation of the Czech Republic and for “awakening the proper patriotism” in the nation. He praised both their results and their sportsmanship, noting that their success drew attention to tennis even among viewers who normally do not follow the sport.
Nosková and Muchová arrived with their trophies and were joined by other Czech tennis figures, including four‑time Grand Slam champion Lucie Šafářová and doubles specialist Barbora Strýcová. The two finalists said their friendship remained unchanged despite the intense final, with Muchová mentioning a recent medical procedure and her aim to return for the US Open.
The ceremony highlighted the growing prominence of Czech women’s tennis, marking Nosková as the third Czech to win Wimbledon in four years, following Markéta Vondroušová and Barbora Krejčíková.
