Petr Pavel calls for unified European negotiating position with Russia

Czech President Petr Pavel has urged Europe to develop a unified negotiating position and a clear strategic vision regarding Russia to avoid potential military escalation. In recent interviews, Pavel emphasized that European security cannot be discussed effectively without the direct involvement of Europeans, noting that the US and Russia currently do not take the continent seriously due to its internal divisions and perceived weakness.

Pavel proposed that Europe should identify a specific individual or group of political leaders, rather than relying solely on EU or NATO representatives, to act as a mandate-driven negotiating body. He suggested that restoring economic relations and trade could serve as an incentive for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Regarding the conflict's status, Pavel reported that Russia is suffering significant losses, estimating approximately 50,000 soldiers killed or wounded in September alone. He also characterized Vladimir Putin as being potentially misinformed due to a paranoid nature and a tendency to surround himself with a very limited circle of trusted individuals.
