Czech Prime Minister Babiš attacks President Pavel over budget veto

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš criticised President Petr Pavel in a Sunday video, accusing him of using a veto on the fiscal‑responsibility law as a purely political move against the government. Babiš argued that the veto, which blocks a proposal to raise the budget deficit limit, endangers the country's finances and defence, and pledged to seek an override.

He portrayed Pavel as the leader of the opposition and claimed the president’s actions threaten health, social and infrastructure spending. Babiš said the government’s last cabinet meeting before the summer recess will be held on Monday, with the next session scheduled for 17 August after the holidays.
