InnoTrans 2026 Berlin showcases railway innovation and AI

The InnoTrans 2026 exhibition has opened in Berlin, marking the 30th anniversary of the major international transport technology event. The trade fair features over 3,100 exhibitors from approximately 60 countries, showcasing 180 world premieres and 113 vehicles from 17 different nations on an outdoor track.

A primary focus of this edition is the integration of artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity through the AI Mobility Lab and the inaugural ‘AI on Track’ hackathon. These technologies aim to optimize rail operations, automate maintenance, and improve passenger experiences. Additionally, the exhibition highlights a shift toward sustainable propulsion, featuring hydrogen-powered and battery-operated locomotives.

Notable industry developments include the presentation of the new Intercity 200 by Trenitalia and Alstom, a train designed to reach speeds of 200 km/h with up to 94% recyclability. International participation is significant, with delegations from Morocco, Turkey, Poland, and the Czech Republic, alongside high-level institutional meetings involving the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC) to discuss global rail competitiveness and interoperability.
