Czech Railways introduces offline card payments for trains
Czech Railways (České dráhy) has implemented a new offline payment feature across its entire network. This update allows passengers to pay for tickets using bank cards via portable personal terminals (POP) even in areas where mobile signal is weak or completely unavailable.
Previously, cashless transactions depended on a continuous mobile connection, which often caused delays when train staff had to wait for signal restoration to complete a sale. Under the new system, transactions are processed in offline mode and synchronized once a connection is re-established.
Lenka Hamplová, CEO of Czech Railways, stated that the goal is to ensure passengers can pay conveniently regardless of signal strength, thereby speeding up the boarding process and providing greater certainty for travelers.
