Czech Railways Secures 30-Year Suburban Train Contract Around Prague

The Central Bohemian Region and Prague have awarded a 30‑year public‑service contract for suburban rail lines to České dráhy. The tender, valued at about 165 billion CZK, was won because the state operator offered a bid roughly 18 billion CZK lower than competitor RegioJet. The agreement, set to start in December 2030, covers electric services to Beroun, Kolín, Kladno and other destinations, and includes the procurement of up to 133 new two‑level EMU units from Škoda Transportation. Final approval still requires the Prague city council, and RegioJet may lodge objections before the contract is signed. The outcome follows a competitive process that initially involved three firms, with RegioJet and České dráhy as the final contenders.
