Municipalities in CZ and SK address urban infrastructure and public space challenges

Various municipalities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia are addressing long-standing urban challenges through infrastructure projects and public debates.

In Jihlava, Mayor Petr Ryška announced new parking optimizations in the Na Slunci area, involving investments of several million crowns to improve traffic flow. Meanwhile, in Bratislava, the environmental ministry approved the EIA for a controversial waste-to-energy plant at the Slovnaft refinery, which aims to process 220,000 tons of waste annually.

Several Czech towns are grappling with neglected public spaces and infrastructure. Znojmo continues to face decades of debate over a proposed parking garage, while Blansko deals with a decaying former fire station. In České Lípa, residents have highlighted safety concerns and lack of parking, and in Chomutov, social issues in housing estates remain a priority. Other regional issues include the poor state of sidewalks in Kladno, the need for shade at bus stops in Třebíč, and the decay of historical baths in Brno.

In Slovakia, the revitalization of the Municipal Park in Banská Bystica is underway, featuring new sports facilities and inclusive playgrounds. Additionally, the debate over a new outdoor swimming pool in Žďár nad Sázavou continues as officials seek alternatives to existing water quality issues.
