Czech Regions and Foundations Allocate Millions to Urban Greening Projects
The Moravian‑Silesian Region announced a new programme of 10 million CZK to support projects that mitigate heat on public sites. Applications from schools, hospitals, kindergartens and other organisations will be accepted until the end of September or until funds are exhausted. The funding aims to create greener courtyards, rain‑water retention basins and tree‑filled roofs to improve micro‑climates.
Separately, the ČEZ Foundation opened the second round of its "Stromy" grant, offering up to 150 000 CZK to municipalities, NGOs, schools and kindergartens for tree planting, community gardens and restoration of historic avenues. Applications close at the end of July. The programme has already supported more than 1 164 projects, resulting in over 158 000 trees being planted across the Czech Republic.
Both initiatives are part of a broader effort to increase urban resilience and biodiversity in response to hotter summer conditions.
