Czech regions expand social care housing and mental health facilities

Czech regional governments are investing in new residential facilities to expand social services for people with disabilities and mental illnesses.

The Liberec Region has announced a 250 million CZK expansion of social services in Hodkovice. The project includes the construction of energy-efficient, passive-standard homes designed to accommodate up to 48 people, alongside protected housing for an additional ten clients. The region aims to begin work this autumn, with completion targeted for 2028. This initiative is part of a long-term transformation of social services in the region, which includes developing community houses and day centers in areas such as Semily and Benešov.

In the Vysočina Region, authorities have approved a memorandum to build a new 80-bed residential facility in Úsobí for individuals with chronic mental illnesses. The facility will include a day center to support those with lower self-sufficiency. Due to high demand, where applicants currently face waiting lists of five to ten years, the project is expected to be completed around 2030. The new site will expand the capacity of the existing Domov ve Věži facility.
