Czech Republic birth rates hit historic low in 2025

The Czech Republic is experiencing a significant demographic decline, with live births reaching a historic low in 2025. According to statistical data, 77,600 children were born in 2025, marking an 8% decrease from the previous year and a 31% drop compared to the beginning of the decade.

This decline is attributed to two primary factors: a reduction in the number of women of reproductive age (15–49) and a decrease in fertility intensity. Specifically, the number of women in the peak fertility age group of 26 to 33 decreased by 90,000 between 2016 and 2025.

Regarding marital status, children born to married women accounted for 53.2% of births in 2025, showing a slight upward trend from previous years. The decline in births has been more pronounced among children born to unmarried, divorced, or widowed mothers.
