Czech Republic considers criminal justice reforms

The Czech government is considering significant changes to the criminal justice system. One proposal involves the creation of an alternative penal code specifically for politicians, inspired by the Italian model used for Silvio Berlusconi. This concept, attributed to Valdemar Andělín, suggests alternative punishments such as community service in nursing homes to avoid imprisonment for political figures.

Separately, Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc is proposing stricter rules regarding the deportation of foreign nationals. The plan would mandate that courts deport non-EU citizens who commit serious crimes, such as violent or sexual offenses, after they have served their sentences in Czech prisons. While some lawmakers support the move as a way to combat illegal migration and crime, others have raised questions regarding the enforceability of such deportations, particularly if the individual faces the risk of torture or the death penalty in their home country.
