Czech Republic faces significant EU budget shifts for 2028–2034
Negotiations regarding the European Union's financial perspective for 2028–2034 indicate substantial changes for the Czech Republic and the broader EU. The Czech Republic is expected to see an annual reduction of 60 billion CZK in EU payments, with 27 billion CZK of that reduction specifically targeting agricultural production and the food industry. This shift is projected to increase food prices by tens of percent.
On a European level, the budget will see massive increases in specific sectors. EU climate policy spending is expected to rise by 700 billion EUR, while military expenditures are slated to increase by 136 billion EUR, alongside 17 billion EUR for military infrastructure. Additionally, EU administrative costs are set to rise, including an increase of 2,500 staff members in Brussels, costing an additional 2.8 billion CZK.
