Czech Republic freedom of speech survey

A survey conducted by the Public Opinion Research Centre and Czech Radio indicates that approximately 70 percent of Czech respondents believe people in the country can express their opinions freely in public. About 21 percent hold a middle-ground view, while 10 percent believe freedom of expression is limited.

Sociologist Paulína Tabery notes that while people feel free to discuss topics such as climate change or gender equality, certain subjects like coexistence with Roma communities, fascism, or Ukrainian refugees are perceived as less free to discuss. Tabery emphasizes that the boundary of free speech should focus on how people speak rather than the topics they choose, noting that social media has intensified debates regarding censorship and the removal of hate speech.
