Czech Republic gains new northernmost observation tower at Jitrovník

The Czech Republic is home to nearly 500 observation towers and lookout structures, serving as a significant symbol of the nation's tourist landscape. While many towers were renovated or built following 1989, recent trends have shifted toward more visually striking architectural designs.

A new 31-meter elliptical steel tower located at Jitrovník is set to become the northernmost observation tower in the country, surpassing the previous record holder, Tanečnice. This project is a joint Czech-Saxon initiative between Šluknov and the German municipality of Sohland, aimed at restoring historical significance to the area by rebuilding on the site of a former wooden tower that stood from 1888 to 1903.

Other notable landmarks in the country include the Ledvice power plant towers, which feature the highest accessible observation platform at 144 meters, and the Bohdanka wooden tower. The Jitrovník tower is expected to boost tourism in the Bohemian Switzerland and Šluknov regions, attracting visitors from both sides of the border.
