Czech Republic garden waste burning regulations

New regulations regarding garden waste disposal in the Czech Republic prohibit the burning of dry plant tissues for the purpose of waste removal. As of March 2025, an exception to the general ban on waste removal via burning has been removed under air protection laws.

Garden waste, such as grass clippings, fallen leaves, and pruned branches, must be processed through composting, wood chippers, bio-waste containers, or municipal collection centers. While burning biological waste for disposal is prohibited, certain types of fires remain legal, including recreational campfires, cooking food over an open flame, traditional social events like Witch Burning celebrations, and using dry, clean wood as fuel for heating or frost protection for trees.

Local municipalities may issue binding decrees to further specify conditions for lighting fires within their jurisdictions.
