Czech Republic health trends show rising pneumococcal disease and increased preventive screening efforts

Health experts in the Czech Republic are highlighting a rising trend in invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) among adults aged 40 to 64. Data from 2025 shows 241 cases in this age group, a 9% increase from the previous year, resulting in 31 deaths. Notably, only one person among those infected was vaccinated. While the highest incidence remains in those over 65, the increase in the working-age population is attributed to aging demographics and the emergence of chronic conditions that weaken immunity.

In response to various health risks, the RBP health insurance company is conducting a mobile prevention tour across Moravian cities, including Frýdek-Místek and Zlín. These free, walk-in screenings allow citizens to check vision, skin moles, blood sugar levels, and vascular age. A new focus for this year is the early detection of prediabetes through glucose testing, aiming to prevent the onset of Type II diabetes through lifestyle adjustments.
