Czech Republic heating infrastructure undergoes major modernization

Significant investments are underway to modernize heating infrastructure in the Czech Republic. In Hodonín, the ČEZ Group has received building permits to replace aging coal-based facilities with new gas boilers, cogeneration units, and a biomass boiler. The project is expected to be completed by September 2030.

In Třebíč, TTS energo has also secured approval to construct a multi-fuel boiler capable of burning up to 20,000 tons of biomass and municipal waste annually. This facility aims to replace older biomass and cogeneration units.

Meanwhile, the City of Prague is preparing an 18.25 billion CZK investment to transform its district heating system. A major portion of this, approximately 8.24 billion CZK, is earmarked for an energy center on Císařský ostrov. This center will utilize heat from treated wastewater to supply roughly 83,000 households. The remaining 9.17 billion CZK is designated for distribution infrastructure. The project aims to eliminate fossil fuels from Prague's heating system by 2040, though the city must navigate existing distribution networks owned by Veolia.
