Holafly study highlights medical care challenges for travelers
A study by Holafly reveals significant challenges for travelers regarding medical care abroad. According to the research, 47.5 percent of frequent and long-term travelers have delayed or entirely avoided seeking medical assistance while traveling. Additionally, 20.3 percent expressed a lack of confidence in finding a trustworthy healthcare provider in a foreign country.
The Holafly Plans Healthcare Index 2026 evaluated 17 countries based on seven key factors, including access to doctors and hospital beds, emergency care, quality of healthcare, insurance requirements, language barriers, waiting times for specialists, and access to pharmacies. The index uses a deficit score from 0 to 100, where higher values indicate greater difficulties in accessing care. The study utilized data from various international organizations, including the World Health Organization, the World Bank, Eurostat, the OECD, and national health authorities.
