Czech Republic implements security measures amid Russian hybrid threats

The Czech government has implemented undisclosed security measures in response to rising hybrid threats and potential Russian cyberattacks. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš stated that the country is likely a target of Russian cyber operations, describing the current situation in Europe as a ‘cold war’ fueled by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

These actions follow a series of security incidents in Germany, which Berlin has linked to Russian-sponsored sabotage. Notable incidents include a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport involving explosives and attacks on electrical substations. In response to these developments, Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka summoned Russian Ambassador Anna Ponomaryova to express concerns. Following the ambassador's rejection of the allegations, the Czech Republic announced it would implement reciprocal measures regarding Russian diplomatic and technical personnel.

While the specific details of the new Czech security protocols remain classified to avoid counterproductive transparency, Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar confirmed that the country remains at terrorism threat level B. Czech security services are reportedly coordinating with European partners to monitor and mitigate these hybrid threats.
