Czech Republic implements winter tire regulations

In the Czech Republic, new regulations regarding winter tire usage will take effect on November 1. Drivers are required to use winter tires if there is a continuous layer of snow, ice, or frost on the road, or if weather conditions suggest such conditions will arise during travel.

Failure to comply can result in an immediate fine of up to 1,500 CZK. If the matter proceeds to administrative proceedings, fines can range from 2,000 to 5,000 CZK. If the improper equipment contributes to a traffic accident, the maximum fine may be doubled. For passenger cars, winter tires must be used on all four wheels and maintain a minimum tread depth of 4 mm. For vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes, the required tread depth on driving axles is at least 6 mm.
