Czech Republic launches health prevention and blood donation initiatives
Health initiatives are being launched in the Czech Republic to promote prevention and support blood donation. In České Budějovice, the South Bohemian Region and the General Health Insurance Company (VZP ČR) are organizing a free health and prevention day on September 17, 2026. The event, held at Přemysl Otakar II Square, offers various free screenings including skin mark examinations, ultrasound artery checks, blood glucose and cholesterol measurements, and oncological prevention.
In Jihlava, the local hospital has introduced a new initiative to encourage blood donors. Donors will now receive a text message notifying them when their blood has been used to help a patient. This feedback mechanism aims to motivate new donors to address current shortages. Officials noted that donor numbers are aging and that certain travel restrictions to countries like Italy, Hungary, or Greece currently affect eligibility due to mosquito-borne disease prevention.
