Czech Republic launches interest-free loans for energy renovations

The Czech Republic is transitioning the 'Nová zelená úsporám' (New Green Savings) program from direct subsidies to interest-free loans for most households. Under the new terms released by the Ministry of the Environment, the state will cover interest and financing costs, meaning borrowers only repay the principal amount.

Homeowners can apply for up to 2 million CZK for comprehensive renovations or 750,000 CZK for partial improvements. For apartment buildings and housing cooperatives, loans can reach up to 750,000 CZK per apartment. Eligible projects include thermal insulation, window replacement, heating system upgrades, photovoltaic installations, and water heating solutions.

Komerční banka and Modrá pyramida have announced their participation in providing these loans. To access the funding, applicants must first receive approval from the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic to ensure the planned improvements meet program criteria. Direct subsidies remain available primarily for vulnerable households through the 'NZÚ Light' scheme.
