Czech Republic holds municipal and Senate elections
Voting for municipal and Senate seats across the Czech Republic has concluded its first phase. In the Senate elections, several candidates secured their seats in the first round, including Jan Grolich in the Vyškov district and Jan Grulich in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. Tomáš Fiala also successfully defended his seat in the Strakonice district.
In municipal elections, the ANO movement has shown strength in several regions, leading in Olomouc with approximately 26.84 percent of the vote. However, the KDU-ČSL party has secured the highest number of municipal mandates overall. Results in larger cities like Prague and Brno are still being processed.
President Petr Pavel participated in the voting, noting that he interrupted his vacation in Morocco to cast his ballot. He addressed previous criticism regarding his potential absence, stating that mistakes happen but he wanted to encourage citizens to vote.
