Czech Republic municipal waste costs vary significantly by region

Municipal waste management costs in the Czech Republic averaged 1,783 CZK per inhabitant last year, according to data from EKO-KOM collected from nearly 6,000 municipalities. The total expenditure includes the collection of mixed municipal waste, sorted waste, bio-waste, and bulky waste.

Mixed municipal waste represents the largest expense, accounting for an average of 797 CZK per person, or 45 percent of total costs. The collection and transport of sorted waste averages 426 CZK per person, while bio-waste and bulky waste account for 157 CZK and 128 CZK respectively.

Regional disparities are significant. Prague recorded the highest average costs at 2,198 CZK per inhabitant, followed by the Central Bohemian Region (2,067 CZK) and the Karlovy Vary Region (2,021 CZK). Conversely, the South Moravian Region had the lowest average costs at 1,452 CZK per inhabitant. These differences are attributed to factors such as municipality size, population density, waste volume, collection methods, and available technologies.
