Czech Republic mushroom growth may improve following recent rainfall

Mushroom foraging conditions in the Czech Republic remain poor, as there is currently no widespread growth of fungi across the country. However, recent rainfall may provide hope for foragers in the coming weeks.

Mycologist Jan Borovička of the Czech Mycological Society stated that the effects of last week's precipitation may take seven to ten days to manifest, depending on subsequent temperature developments. He noted that saprotrophic fungi, which feed on organic matter in the soil rather than living in symbiosis with trees, are likely to appear first. Expected varieties include button mushrooms, field mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms.

Mycorrhizal fungi, which live in symbiosis with trees, will likely appear later, provided there is additional rainfall. While the probability of finding mushrooms is currently very low across most of the country, moderate probabilities are noted in the Blansko Forest, the southern Orlické Mountains, areas west and south of Ostrava, and particularly in the Jeseníky mountains.
