Czech Republic mushroom season begins following rainfall

Recent rainfall in the Czech Republic has significantly improved conditions for mushroom growth following a period of dry weather. Mycologists report that edible species are beginning to appear, particularly in mountainous and sub-mountainous regions such as the Krkonoše, Jizerské, and Šumava mountains, as well as the Beskydy and Orlické mountains.

While conditions are promising in many areas, including parts of northern, western, and southern Bohemia, southern Moravia remains less favorable due to lingering soil dryness near Brno and Znojmo. Experts note that while smaller mushrooms may appear quickly, boletes and other larger mushrooms typically require ten to fourteen days of favorable conditions to emerge, and potentially up to three weeks if the soil was previously very dry.

Foraging success currently depends on locating areas that retain moisture, such as shaded spots, mossy patches, northern slopes, forest edges, and grassy clearings. Species currently being observed include spruce boletes, various types of boletes (klouzky), chanterelles, and oyster mushrooms.
