Czech Republic names new leaders for army and transport ministry

At the start of August, the Czech Republic announced a wide reshuffle of senior positions in its Army. Deputy commander Jaroslav Míka will become head of the Operations Command, while Václav Vlček moves to serve as the Czech military representative to NATO and the European Union in Brussels. Jan Štěpánek will be his deputy. In the Directorate of Foreign Activities, deputy director Lukáš Jelínek assumes the top post, with Miroslav Chylík taking over as deputy. Jan Husák is reassigned to the Joint Support and Enabling Command in Germany, and Karel Zapletal becomes director of the Ministry of Defence’s logistics section, replacing Robert Bielený, who will move to the NATO Supreme Headquarters in Belgium. Generals Roman Hyťa and Ivo Střecha will leave their posts by the end of the year.

Separately, the Ministry of Transport appointed Michal Kraus as head of the rail, water and air transport section, effective 3 August 2026. Kraus brings more than three decades of managerial experience from České dráhy, Plzeň City Transport, Škoda Holding and Czech Airlines, and will oversee strategic investments in rail, waterways and aviation projects.
