Czech Republic offers interest-free loans for energy renovations
The Czech government has introduced a new component to the ‘Green Savings’ program, offering interest-free loans for energy renovations. Instead of direct subsidies, homeowners can access loans of up to 2 million CZK for comprehensive renovations or 750,000 CZK for partial improvements. The state compensates for interest and other associated costs, aiming for a zero percent interest rate and zero APR.
Eligible improvements include insulation, window and door replacement, new heating sources, photovoltaics, and renewable energy systems. Funding can also be used for green roofs or rainwater harvesting systems. For complex renovations, the energy efficiency of the building is assessed both before and after the project. For partial renovations, a ‘renovation passport’ is used to help households plan efficient upgrades.
To qualify, homeowners must first submit a project to the State Environmental Fund for approval. Once approved, they can apply through participating banks or building societies, though final approval remains subject to the financial institution’s credit assessment. The application period began on June 25, 2026, and is scheduled to run until October 31, 2029, or until funds are exhausted.
