Czech Republic opens 13 caves early for summer season

Thirteen caves managed by the Czech Cave Administration will begin their summer season on Friday, 26 June 2026, a week ahead of the usual schedule. Director Milan Jan Půček said the change is intended to help families with children start their holidays earlier. Since last year, the administration has offered discounted tickets for families with two or three children.

Among the sites, the Balcarka Cave in Moravian Karst will extend its opening hours, with the last guided tour at 16:30. The caves maintain a constant temperature between 8 °C and 14 °C, depending on the location. Fourteen caves at Na Pomezí near Jeseník remain closed for electrical‑system renovation, as winter hibernation of bats prevents winter access.

Special programmes are also available: candlelit evening tours on Mondays at Na Turoldu in Mikulov, flashlight‑only tours on Wednesdays at Na Špičáku in Supíkovice, and monthly expert tours in the Mother‑of‑Pearl Cave showcasing prehistoric drawings. Additional attractions include the reopened Masaryk Dome in the Punkevní Caves, guided helmet tours in Výpustek, and visits to Bozkovské dolomitové, Koněpruské, Chýnovská and Javoříčské caves. Tickets can be purchased online or via the administration’s website and social media channels.
