Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka is conducting an official visit to North Macedonia, where he reaffirmed that North Macedonia’s accession to the European Union is a priority for the Czech Republic. During meetings in Ohrid with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski, Macinka expressed readiness to share Czechia’s own accession experiences to help avoid past mistakes.

President Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized that the country’s long-standing candidate status is due to identity-based blockades from neighbors rather than a lack of alignment with European law, noting that Western Balkan integration is a critical European security issue. Macinka offered Czech assistance in mediating the dispute between Skopje and Sofia to facilitate the EU process.
