Czech Republic preventive health screenings for women

In the Czech Republic, women have access to various free preventive health screenings covered by public health insurance. These screenings are designed to detect diseases early, such as breast cancer, which affects approximately 8,000 women in the country annually.

For women aged 45 and older, screening mammography is covered once every two years. These exams are intended for women without symptoms to detect small changes before they become palpable. Starting July 1, 2026, screening centers may be able to issue referrals directly in exceptional cases where a patient lacks a primary gynecologist or general practitioner.

Other essential preventive measures include annual gynecological exams starting from age 15, which include cytology and HPV testing at ages 35, 45, and 55. General practitioner visits every two years include laboratory tests, blood pressure monitoring, and urine analysis. From 2026, these visits will also incorporate assessments of family history, mental health, and waist circumference.
