Czech Republic proposes 386 billion CZK budget deficit

The Czech government has introduced a draft state budget for the upcoming year, proposing a deficit of 386 billion CZK. This figure represents an increase of 76 billion CZK compared to the current year's approved deficit. To cover this gap, the government plans to rely largely on increasing state debt.

Proposed revenues are expected to rise by 80.8 billion CZK to reach 2.199 trillion CZK, while expenditures are projected to increase by 156.8 billion CZK to 2.585 trillion CZK. Finance Minister Alena Schillerova stated that while she is not satisfied with the deficit, the budget prioritizes investments in healthcare, sports, and transport infrastructure.

The opposition has criticized the proposal, arguing it is structured for a crisis year despite the absence of a crisis. They have expressed concerns regarding the high deficit, which would be the second largest since the 2021 pandemic period.
