Czech Republic proposes constitutional protection for crown and cash
Czech coalition leaders have drafted a constitutional amendment to enshrine the Czech crown as the national currency and guarantee the right to use cash. The amendment is intended as a hedge against the euro, ensuring the crown cannot be abolished by a simple parliamentary majority. However, the proposal faces legislative hurdles, as the coalition currently holds 108 of the 120 votes required for passage, with several partner parties signaling they will not provide the necessary support.
In economic news, Michal Strnad, owner of the CSG arms group, has been named the richest person in Czechia for the second consecutive year, with assets valued at CZK 470 billion. Daniel Křetínský follows in second place with CZK 432 billion. The total wealth of the top 100 individuals in the country has increased by nearly twenty percent compared to last year.
Additionally, the Czech Ambassador to Washington, Jakub Kulhánek, is focusing on strengthening Czech-U.S. business relations, specifically highlighting the Texas startup scene as a potential area for cooperation.
