Czech Republic prostate cancer screening detects 2,000 tumors

A nationwide prostate cancer screening program in the Czech Republic has identified over 2,000 malignant tumors within its first two years of operation. The program has successfully tested 308,668 men, with a 99.1 percent participation rate among those invited.

Medical officials note that the program's success is partly due to replacing invasive rectal examinations with more comfortable PSA blood tests as the primary screening method. This shift has encouraged higher participation, particularly among men aged 50 and older, helping to detect cancers while they are still in early, highly treatable stages.

Experts highlight that while prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the country, early detection significantly improves survival rates. The increase in detected cases is attributed to both the effectiveness of the screening and the demographic aging of the population.
