Czech Republic regional unemployment rises in July

Unemployment rates in the South Moravian and South Bohemian regions of the Czech Republic saw a seasonal increase in July. In the South Moravian Region, the number of job seekers rose to 45,128, a 10.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The unemployment rate in this region reached 5.4%. This rise was particularly notable among women, whose unemployment increased by an average of 5.7%, compared to a 1.3% increase for men.

In the South Bohemian Region, 2,638 people registered with labor offices in July. While the unemployment rate was higher than the previous year's 3.7%, there was an increase in available job vacancies, totaling 6,748. High-demand roles included truck drivers, assembly workers, cooks, and various skilled manufacturing positions such as welders and toolmakers. The highest unemployment in the region was recorded in the Český Krumlov district at 5%, while the lowest was in Jindřichův Hradec at 3.6%.

Officials attribute these fluctuations to standard seasonal trends, including the influx of graduates from the education system and reduced hiring activity due to summer holidays. Additionally, some women are delaying entry into the workforce to manage childcare during the summer months.
