Czech Republic reports high traffic fatalities during summer

The Czech Republic has experienced a series of fatal traffic accidents, with recent reports highlighting a particularly tragic weekend and a high death toll in the South Moravian Region. In South Moravia, 12 people have died since the beginning of July, making it the deadliest region in the country during this period.

A significant accident occurred on the I/53 road near Pohořelice, where a head-on collision involving a vehicle driving in the wrong direction resulted in two deaths. This stretch of road, often referred to as a ‘road of death,’ is scheduled for major reconstruction starting this September to improve safety by adding a third lane.

Nationwide, police reported that eight people died over a single weekend, including five motorcyclists. Statistics indicate that summer months remain the most dangerous time of year for road users. Authorities attribute the increase in accidents to factors such as excessive speed, driver inattention, and fatigue exacerbated by high summer temperatures, which have recently reached 40 degrees Celsius.
