Czech household finances show rising debt and gambling spend

Recent data highlights shifting financial trends among Czech households. A survey by Provident Financial indicates that more people are living paycheck to paycheck, with 13 percent reporting no money left after monthly expenses, up from 9 percent the previous year. While the ability to save at high rates has declined, overall financial resilience has seen an increase, with over a quarter of respondents possessing enough savings to cover more than a year of expenses.

In contrast to concerns regarding daily liquidity, gambling expenditures in the Czech Republic have surged. According to the Financial Administration, citizens wagered or cycled 574.8 billion CZK in gambling games during the first half of the year, representing a 12.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This figure approaches a quarter of the country's annual state budget.

Additionally, household debt in the country continues to rise, with total liabilities exceeding 4.4 trillion CZK.
