Czech Republic faces severe drought and declining reservoir levels

The Czech Republic is facing severe hydrological and soil drought conditions. Scientists from CzechGlobe warn that extreme soil drought could affect nearly one-third of the country, with the most critical levels in South Bohemia and Moravia. This lack of moisture is impacting ecosystems, particularly forests, and has significantly weakened the autumn mushroom season.

Reservoir levels are declining across the country. The Slapy reservoir has seen a significant drop, and the Orlická dam is being held at 20 percent capacity to maintain necessary river flows. In South Bohemia, the Lipno I reservoir is at 48.43 percent capacity, while the Husinec reservoir has reached a critical low of 1.19 percent.

In other regions, the Hracholusky reservoir has dried up extensively, exposing previously submerged military objects and old infrastructure. Meanwhile, in Prague and surrounding areas, planned maintenance is resulting in scheduled water outages in several districts including Kolovraty, Krč, Kobylisy, and Kyje.
